| | How frequently will the information be updated? | Since much of the content and applications will exist on other websites, FirstResponder.gov will be updated on a schedule that reflects the updates of the source websites. |
| | How is FirstResponder.gov different from other homeland security and emergency response-related websites? | The goal of FirstResponder.gov is not to create content or applications, but leverage the content and applications already developed by the community at the Federal, State, Local and Tribal levels. A key strategy in the development of FirstResponder.gov will be to develop strong partnerships with service providers. (A service provider is anyone who has valuable content and/or applications to share with the user community.) In addition, FirstResponder.gov provides direct access to other DHS first responder resources. |
| | Is there any training required to use FirstResponder.gov? If so, how do I sign-up for training? | There is no training required to use FirstResponder.gov. The site navigation is designed to be intuitive and break information down by discipline. |
| | Were first responders involved in the development of this Portal? | Yes, a User Advisory Group, which had representation from fire, law enforcement, and emergency management, was involved throughout the development of the first release of the DHS Tech Clearinghouse. A Community of Excellence will also be developed with representatives from all areas of the first responder community to provide feedback and validate the value and relevance of the resources throughout the life of FirstResponder.gov |
| | What information can I expect to find on FirstResponder.gov? | FirstResponder.gov establishes a single point of entry for all existing federal and association information relating to the entire spectrum of technology information. The areas covered by FirstResponder.gov include existing technologies, standards and guidelines, policies and regulations, technical assistance, lessons learned and best practices, grant programs, training programs and test and evaluation information. Much of this information already exists, spread across a number of different websites. A single point of entry makes it easier and quicker for practitioners to find the information they need.
The goal of FirstResponder.gov is to provide high-quality information. Therefore, the types of information available will be determined by the users to avoid cluttering FirstResponder.gov with irrelevant data. Due to this approach, practitioner interaction is vital. Please click the Site Feedback icon on the Homepage to provide input. This will guarantee that FirstResponder.gov continually serves the needs of the practitioner.

| | What is FirstResponder.gov? | FirstResponder.gov is designed to meet Section 313 of the Homeland Security Act (fill in Public Law) to create a “Technology Clearinghouse to encourage and support innovative solutions to enhance Homeland Security” and “[to establish a] centralized Federal clearinghouse for information relating to technologies that would further the mission of the Department for dissemination, as appropriate, to Federal, State and local government and private sector entities for additional review, purchase or use.”
In other words, FirstResponder.gov provides practitioners and, where appropriate, the private sector, with centralized and easy access to information and technology knowledge necessary for performing their homeland security missions.
